Design change management for structural steel
Version control for the handoff between Revit and Tekla
RevTek turns every structural design revision into a numbered Design Change Request. Detailers review each change in Tekla Structures, accept or decline it, and every decision is recorded.
Autodesk Revit 2024–2027 · Tekla Structures 2023–2025
Level 3 framing revision
- Accepted
Beam B-204
Profile W12X26 → W14X30
- Accepted
Column C-11
Moved 150 mm north
- Pending
Brace BR-7
Added on grid line 4
- Declined
Beam B-118
Camber 1/2" → 3/4"
Declined: “Camber conflicts with the connection detail”, reviewer and time recorded.
Every revision crosses the gap by hand
Engineers design the structure in Autodesk Revit. Detailers rebuild it in Tekla Structures to make it fabrication-ready. Two models, two teams, and every design change travels between them as marked-up drawings, emails and re-issued sheets.
IFC moves geometry, not change
A model export shows what the building looks like now. It doesn’t say what changed, who approved it, or what was rejected and why.
Drift is where the cost hides
Each manual re-entry is a chance for the fabrication model to disagree with the design, and the mistake usually surfaces in the shop or on site.
How it works
A plugin in Revit, a plugin in Tekla, one shared record in between
- 1
Detect
The engineer syncs in Revit. RevTek compares the model with the project in the cloud and classifies every steel member as added, modified or removed.
- 2
Package
The changes become a numbered Design Change Request: element by element, property by property, before and after. The engineer chooses what goes in.
- 3
Review
In Tekla Structures, the detailer accepts or declines each change. A decline needs a reason and goes back to the engineer by name.
- 4
Apply and record
Accepted changes are applied to native Tekla parts. Every decision stays on record, so the history of any member is one click away.
Platform
Everything a design change needs, from first import to final record
Build
Turn the Revit model into a native Tekla model.
- One-click baseline import: beams, columns, braces and plates with correct profiles, materials, positions and orientation
- Building levels and construction phases carried onto every part
- Custom sections keep their design names and are added to the Tekla catalog
Translate
Steel detailing knowledge, encoded.
- Wide flange, channels, angles, double angles, HSS, starred angles, plates, pipes and European sections
- Every profile checked against the live Tekla catalog before a part is created
- Per-family orientation rules for justification, facing, rotation and depth
Manage change
Design Change Requests instead of marked-up drawings.
- A dozen tracked change categories: position, profile, material, rotation, level, camber, weight, connection codes and more
- Accept or decline per property, per element, per category, or all at once
- Conflict warnings when two pending requests touch the same member
Prove it
A complete audit trail, automatically.
- The same permanent ID for every member in Revit, the cloud and Tekla
- Full per-element history across every change request, including declines and their reasons
- In-model status flags you can filter, report and show on drawings
Self-heal
Built for real production models, not clean demos.
- Finds members missing from the Tekla model and imports them on demand
- Detects attribute drift against the source of truth and repairs it in one click
- Recovers lost identities and catches duplicate IDs before they cause damage
Run a team
Engineers and detailers, even in different companies.
- Every detailer’s copy of the model stays in lockstep
- Cross-company projects with access scoped to each organization
- A web dashboard for approvals, status and administration, no CAD seat needed
~4,000 members
32,000 property changes, one request
RevTek is built inside a working steel detailing operation and runs on live commercial projects. Bulk cloud operations have been validated with a single change request of roughly 4,000 members and 32,000 property changes, and large models stay responsive instead of freezing.

Security and IT
Ready for the way firms run IT
Company sign-in
One account across Revit, Tekla and the web dashboard. Accounts use company email addresses, with emailed one-time codes for confirmation and password resets.
Walled-off organizations
Access is scoped by organization, project and role. Partner firms see only the projects shared with them.
Hosted in the United States
Project data and model snapshots are stored on Amazon Web Services in the US East (Ohio) region and encrypted in transit.
IT-friendly deployment
Windows Installer packages for Microsoft Intune, per-user installs that update themselves without admin rights, and a manual mode for locked-down environments.
See RevTek on a real project
We’ll walk through a design revision from Revit to an accepted change in Tekla, on a model like yours.
